🛡️ The short version: We collect only what's needed to run the Service. We never sell your data, never show ads, and never share your location with anyone outside your family.
1. Who We Are
GuardianNest is a family safety application. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to GuardianNest and its operators. You can reach us at privacy@guardiannest.app.
2. What We Collect
Account information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, and a hashed password. We never store passwords in plain text.
Location data: When a family member's device has location sharing enabled, we collect GPS coordinates, accuracy, speed, and battery level. This data is tied to the user's account and visible only to members of their family workspace.
Messages: In-app messages between family members are stored encrypted on our servers. Only the sender and recipient can read them.
Alert history: Events such as safe zone breaches, SOS alerts, and speed alerts are logged and stored for review within your family workspace.
Contact form submissions: If you contact us via our website form, we store your name, email, and message to enable us to respond.
Usage data: We collect anonymised usage metrics (e.g. app session length, feature usage) to improve the Service. This data cannot be used to identify you.
3. What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect payment card numbers — all billing is handled by our payment processor
- We do not build advertising profiles
- We do not read the content of your messages for any purpose other than delivery
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your data with any third party
- We do not use your location data for any purpose other than displaying it to your family
4. How We Use Your Data
- To provide the Service: Location data, messages, and alerts are used solely to deliver the family safety features you signed up for
- To send notifications: Push notifications and email alerts are sent to notify parents of safety events (safe zone breaches, SOS, low battery)
- To improve the Service: Anonymised usage patterns help us understand which features are most useful
- To communicate with you: Account-related emails (password reset, billing receipts, replies to your support messages)
5. Data Retention
Location history is retained for 7 days (Free plan) or 30 days (Pro plan) and then automatically deleted. Alert history is retained for 90 days. Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data is deleted within 30 days.
6. Data Security
All data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Sensitive data at rest is encrypted. Our servers are hosted on Microsoft Azure in certified secure data centres. We apply the principle of least privilege — staff can only access data needed for their specific role.
7. Third-Party Services
We use a small number of third-party services to operate:
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNs): Delivers push notifications to iOS devices. Apple receives only the device token and notification payload — no location data
- Microsoft Azure: Hosts our servers and database in a secure, GDPR-compliant environment
- Payment processor: Handles billing for Pro subscriptions. We never receive or store your full card details
- Email service: Sends transactional emails. Email content may pass through this service but is not stored beyond delivery
8. Children's Privacy
GuardianNest is operated by an adult parent or guardian. Child accounts are created and managed by the parent. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children independently — all child data is collected under the parent's account and consent.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access a copy of your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Withdraw consent for location sharing at any time by disabling it in the app
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

10. Cookies
Our mobile app does not use cookies. Our web portal uses session storage (not persistent cookies) to maintain your login session. This data is cleared when you close the browser tab or sign out.
11. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you via the app or email before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last updated.
